First thing first: this isn't a finished game.

I know — you spent money. Maybe a lot of it. The trailers are gorgeous. The promise is enormous. And then you load in for the first time and… things are broken.

The elevators don't work right. Your ship despawned. Server crashed mid-mission. Your character clipped through a wall and died. Welcome to alpha.

Fig. 01Elevator does what elevators do. About three seconds of footage; goes here once Cass records a clean take.

Star Citizen is a game being built in front of you, in public, with you on the test stand. Pieces are missing. Pieces are broken. Pieces work on Tuesday and not on Wednesday. Then they come back fixed on Friday with a brand-new problem on Saturday. That's the deal.

I'm not telling you to lower your expectations. I'm telling you to change them.

Treat this as a workshop, not a finished theme park. The fun comes from watching it grow.

Fig. 02A moment from inside the workshop. Building a base · prepping a Reclaimer · the verse becoming itself.

Three things to keep in mind

  1. 01.You are a tester, not a customer. The game gets better when you report what breaks.
  2. 02.Things that work today might break next patch. Don't get attached to a specific exploit or strat.
  3. 03.The fastest way to enjoy yourself is to stop expecting feature-complete anything. Take it as it comes.
